Four have been arrested by Middletown Police for driving while under the influence since last Thursday. Alan Hodge of 44 Memorial Blvd., Newpor,t was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 9:52 p.m on charges of first offense driving under the influence, simple assault or battery, vandalism and resisting arrest. He was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test. The 31-year-old man was stopped in the Flint Marine parking lot on East Main Road for allegedly operating a vehicle in a reckless manner. Allegedly, Hodge was highly agitated and cursed at the officer who stopped him. Jason David Thompson, 33, of 23 Calvert St., Newport, was arrested at approximately noon, Saturday, Jan. 28, for three felony counts of drug possession, and two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and vandalism. According to the police report, officers responded to a report of an argument at an inn on Aquidneck Avenue. The officers found Thompson allegedly threatening another party, told him he was under arrest for disorderly conduct, and escorted him to a police car. Thompson allegedly asked the officers to get his wallet from the other party and bring it to him; he also allegedly asked the officers to check how much money was in the wallet. Laureen J. O’Connor, 20, of 130 Old Harbor Rd., Westport, MA, was arrested at approximately 9 p.m., Tues., Jan. 24, for possession of marijuana. According to the police report, an officer observed O’Connor driving at 50 mph in a 30 mph area of West Main Road. When speaking to O’Connor, the officer reportedly noticed the smell of marijuana. A search of the car reportedly revealed several bags of marijuana, as well as a scale, wrapping papers, and a pipe. Gregory J. Mallette, 25, of 122 Colvintown Rd., Coventry, was arrested at approximately 10 a.m., Tues., Jan. 24, for possession of marijuana. Virginia A. Danaher, 32, of 969 West Main Road, Middletown, was arrested at approximately 2 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16, for driving under the influence. According to the police report, an officer observed Danaher’s car traveling at 50 mph in a 25 mph area of West Main Road, passing another car on the right, and traveling in the center of both northbound lanes. Upon stopping the car, the officer reportedly smelled alcohol on Danaher’s breath, and performed field sobriety tests. Danaher allegedly had trouble maintaining her balance during both the walk-and-turn and the one-leg-stand tests, and was transported to the Middletown police station. Ryan James Yergeau, 20, of 23 Rosedale Terrace, Middletown, was arrested at approximately 1 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13, for allegedly driving under the influence. He was charged with vandalism at 3 a.m. According to the police report, an officer stopped Yergeau for speeding on West Main Road near Forest Avenue and reportedly noticed a strong smell of alcohol when speaking to him. During a field sobriety test, Yergeau allegedly was unable to follow instructions or perform the tasks. He was taken to the Middletown Police Station for processing, and a chemical test reportedly registered a blood alcohol level of .166. Yergeau allegedly damaged the walls of the cell in which he was placed by scratching paint off the walls using his fingernails.

Two Newport teens and a 21-year-old man were arrested in late December for allegedly breaking and entering into a Middletown residence. Kyle Tucker, 19, of 90 Girard Avenue, Newport, was arrested at approximately 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 30, on charges of breaking and entering. The following day, two alleged accomplices were arrested as well. Matthew W. Williams, 19, of 13 Kay Street, Newport, was arrested at approximately 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, and Stephen Wayne Sousa, 21, of no known permanent address, was arrested at approximately 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31.
