Rhode Island's first baby of 2012 was delivered just after midnight Sunday. The Providence Journal reports that Dassiel Ferrera gave birth at Women & Infants Hospital to a 7 pounds, 14 ounce boy. For expecting mothers, the birth of their little one is an incredibly special moment. But having the first little one of the new year makes that arrival just a little more sweet. Do you know an Aquidneck Island woman who gave birth on New Year's Day? Or who is expecting to deliver soon? Don't forget to share the joy of your birth with your neighbors by posting a birth announcement right here on Patch.

Are you making a 2012 to-do list?
Love them or hate them, we've all made New Year's resolutions at one point or another. Sometimes they're over-arching — "be happier, more prosperous" — and other times we try to get specific, such as "clean the hallway closet by the end of the month." Personally, I'm feeling pretty good about heading into 2012. I've made many a resolution in the past to be healthier, but this year I've already got a head start. I joined Bridge to Fitness about a month ago, and stopped by the market at Sweet Berry Farm this morning to pick up a few items before they close for the season. How about you? Where do you stand on your 2012 to-dos?
A look at how the holiday is impacting local offices and businesses.
