Newport County Students Tour IYRS

Around 30 high school students attended the most recent trip organized by the Newport County Mentor/Co-Op Group

On Wednesday May 16, around 30 Newport County High School students received "hands-on" experience with the local manufacturing sector, as well as learned about training opportunities that could lead to Rhode Island based career opportunities after graduation.  At the event organized by the Newport County Mentor/Co-Op Group and the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA), the students traveled to Bristol and toured the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) - marine trades and technology school, followed by a visit to local business Clear Carbon & Components. “It’s great to see so many young people from Rhode Island who have an interest in learning about this exciting industry located right in their own backyard,” said Holly …

Newport County Students to Tour Yacht School

The event is open to all high school students in Newport County. The deadline to sign up is May 11

The Newport County Mentor/Co-Op Group will be hosting a tour for area high school students on May 16th of the International Yacht Restoration School composites shop in Bristol. The event is open to any student in Newport County.   “We are happy to have the group visit IYRS. Our marine systems students are on internship, so upon arrival, we will meet in the systems shop, explain the programs and then break up into groups to tour the composites shop,” said Holly Ashton, IYRS Admissions Associate. “There is a lot going on in the shop right now so this should be a great experience for all.” Students are asked to contact their high school advisors and/or school based coordinator for more information. High School Students Can Tour Surface Warfare Officers School

The Newport County Mentor Group is organizing a tour of the Surface Warfare Officers School on March 28. This tour is available to any high school student in Newport County.

The Newport County Mentor/Co-Op Group invites students of Newport County high schools to take a tour of the Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS) and the Naval War College. The tour will take place at 3:30 p.m. March 28. For security reasons, the deadline to sign up for the event is next Wednesday, March 14. SWOS prepares Navy personnel for duty on board surface ships. Students will visit a number of simulators that will demonstrate ship handling, anti-terrorism, and damage control and will be able to “drive the ship” in different situations. Following the SWOS tour, students will visit the Naval War College. Presentations will be made on various War College programs. The War College foundation of studies is to create a decision-making …
