Wave of Beachside Residents Turn Out for Easton's Bay Pollution Talks
More than 50 residents turned out for the town's stormwater workshop Monday. The presentation, open forum, and Q&A session also touched on early discussions to possibly relocate storm drains away from Easton's Bay.
Middletown's Town Hall was buzzing with talk of contaminated stormwater Monday night at the town's first water pollution workshop, while experts also addressed very early discussions to relocate drainage pipes away from Easton Bay. About 50 residents, most of whom live near the beaches, were met with shocking statistics about pollutants that are discharged into the waters of Easton Bay every time it rains. "These numbers don't make sense. It sounds like they're telling me I shouldn't allow my son to lay on my lawn. Should I not allow him to play outside in the rain?" questioned Bill DiMarco, a Middletown resident. DiMarco's concerns stemmed from a Woodard & Curran representative's bacteria presentation.
