Daisy and Ellie Mae are up for adoption at the Potter League.
When it comes to Potter League pups Daisy and Ellie Mae, the two are inseparable. Daisy went blind about a year ago, and Ellie Mae is her unofficial seeing-eye dog. The two dogs, both eight years old, were relinquished to the Potter League because their owners were in the service and are now up for adoption. Daisy is a mixed beagle with a tail that never seems to stop wagging. Ellie Mae is a coonhound mix who is happy to sit, shake and even spin around for a treat. The Potter League is offering a two-for-one deal and will only charge the price of one dog to adopt the duo. The Potter League for Animals will hold its is annual Heart & Sole Walk for the Animals on Sunday, June 3, at Glen Park.
The Potter League for Animals will hold its 23nd annual Heart & Sole Walk for the Animals on Sunday, June 3, at Glen Park. The Heart & Sole Walk raises funds to care for homeless pets in need throughout the year. Participants are encouraged to collect pledges and earn great prizes at the same time. This year, adults who raise $125 and kids who raise $75 will receive a limited-edition Walk T-shirt and eco-friendly water bottle. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the shelter animals. This year, the walk will feature a first-ever Cat Lovers Unite Walk Team, the Pussy Footers. Teams from local schools, health clubs, small and large businesses are invited to form teams as an opportunity to build community and achieve special …

Once again the community opened their hearts and their wallets to help the homeless animals at the 39th Annual Have A Heart Cocktail Party and Silent Auction at the Hotel Viking in Newport. More than 500 people attended, raising more than $92,000 to help the Potter League provide care and find loving homes for the homeless and unwanted animals. Auctioneer, Emlen Drayton emceed the event and hosted a lively and fun-filled live auction featuring fabulous get-a-ways, exciting sports tickets and elite excursions and dinners. Local author Ann Hood will launch her book tour for her new children's book series, The Treasure Chest, featuring eight books that are set in Newport at Island Books beginning at 4:30 p.m. today. The books are geared towards children ages 9-12 and follow the stories of twins who have recently moved from New York City into an attic apartment of a Newport mansion where they discover their great-grandfather's hidden study and its power of time travel that takes them back to a different era in each book. The Middletown High School sports teams have a busy weekend lined up. The Girls Varsity Basketball Team will take on Juanita Sanchez High School at 7 p.m. at home on Friday night. The Boys Varsity Hockey Team will compete against East Greenwich High School at 1 p.m. at the St. George’s Hockey Rink, and the Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team will compete against Barrington, N. Kingstown, and S.
