Potter League's Cat of the Week

  Despite that the Chinese calendar has designated 2013 to the snake, the Potter League for Animals has overruled the animal for Newport County.  This year has been declared The Year of the Cat by the shelter.   Throughout the year, the Potter League will address various feline issues and challenges as well as encourage residents to adopt a cat.  Every week, beginning Monday Feb. 4, one lucky cat will be featured for a discounted adoption price of $20.13 each week.  The featured cat will be available for that price through Sunday at 4 p.m. On Monday, the Potter League announced the first cat of the week is Rosemary. Last Chance: Pet Loss Support

The deadline to register is this Friday.

If you are dealing with the loss of a pet and want to receive the support of others in a similar situation, you might consider signing up for the Potter League's Pet Loss Support Group meeting. The meeting is scheduled for this coming Sunday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m. The registration deadline is this Friday, April 20. LETTER: Potter League Says "Thank You" for a Successful 39th Annual Fundraiser

The Middletown Potter League held it's 39th annual "Have a Heart" fundraiser on Feb 10 at the Hotel Viking. The event raised more than $92,000.

This letter was submitted by the Middletown Potter League for Animals: Love was definitely in the air on February 10th! Once again the community opened their hearts and their wallets to help the homeless animals at the 39th Annual Have A Heart Cocktail Party and Silent Auction at the Hotel Viking in Newport. More than 500 people attended, raising more than $92,000 to help the Potter League provide care and find loving homes for the homeless and unwanted animals.  Auctioneer, Emlen Drayton emceed the event and hosted a lively and fun-filled live auction featuring fabulous get-a-ways, exciting sports tickets and elite excursions and dinners. Potter League: Camp Happy Tails Registration is Open

The Potter League shares details on its annual summer camps.

The Potter League For Animals has announced that registration for the 2012 Camp Happy Tails camp is now open. The theme for the 2nd & 3rd grade age group will be “Talk like an Animal.” Campers will go into the shelter to decode some animal communications first-hand. The older group, grades 4-6, will learn how to use a clicker to train different kinds of animals, during the  “Click and Treat” themed week. The group will start some of the shelter dogs off on the right paw before their adoptions, and the children will be assigned to a cat to train. Younger children can also learn about and interact with different kinds of pets during the shelter's “Best Friends” week or learn about Potter League's unique, smaller friends during the “Crazy …

Letter: Thank Employees, Volunteers This Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

Potter League Board of Directors President Patty Spigel asks residents to thank animal shelter employees and volunteers during this national appreciation week.

If you are an animal lover, you certainly understand the human-animal bond and how strong it is. It makes no difference if your pet came to you from a reputable breeder of your own choosing or from the local shelter via adoption; you understand the deep connection that exists.  Animal shelters all around the world help animals and people every day. The Potter League is such a shelter, right here in our community. Most of the animals that come into the care of the Potter League are lost, homeless, unwanted or sorrowfully relinquished because their owners can no longer care for them due to major life changes.  The Potter League staff and volunteers are the ones who help these individuals and their animal(s) through the surrender process at …
