Snowstorm to Hit Rhode Island, Coastal Areas Might Be Spared

Snow is expected in Rhode Island this weekend, yet coastal areas might be spared.

Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away. Because once again, the weekend is bringing us more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, which could dump another 8 inches on some parts of Rhode Island. Middletown might be spared, however.  At this time, the best chance for this will be north of the Massachusetts turnpike and away from the coast, reports the National Weather Service (NWS).  Being three days away, the NWS says the forecast is still uncertain and could change.  However, the threat for a period of heavy snow is possible across much of the region. The NWS warns of the potential for some downed tree limbs and power outages where heavy wet snow occurs. What's your guess? …

More Snow On The Way?

New England may be getting more snow later this week.

Although it's early in the game, some preliminary weather models are projecting that New England will get more snow this week. First, initial projections are predicting that Rhode Island could get 2 to 4 inches Wednesday into Thursday as a smaller system makes its way across the Northeast. More aggressive models project 6 to 8 inches. Unfortunately, that's not all. Another major storm system, currently brewing in the Pacific Northwest, could be heading straight toward New England this weekend. Cold air from Canada is expected to plunge into the storm system and could hit the Northeast or bypass the area and head out to sea. Earliest estimates have the storm hitting Rhode Island Sunday or Sunday night. This storm could pack more of a punch …

Significant Snow Storm Expected To Hit Middletown This Weekend

A foot of snow is predicted in some locations

The National Weather Service warns of a "very significant winter storm" Friday into early Saturday.  The worst of the storm is expected Friday afternoon into early Saturday. NWS predicts a potential for a foot or more of snow in some locations. The main uncertainty is how far west the heaviest snow will reach into the distant interior. Along the coastal plain, rain/snow mixing could cut down on accumulations. There is also a chance of strong winds across portions of the coastal plain late Friday into early Saturday.
