Friends Describe Fort Hood Victim as a 'Tough Guy' With a 'Heart of Gold'
Michael Franklin, a 1997 Rogers High graduate and a 2003 Salve Regina alum, apparently shot his wife, then killed himself, on Sept. 26.
When Brenden Reagan first heard that his college roommate, Michael Timothy Franklin, was dead, his first instinct was to call him. "I didn't know what to think at first, so I called his phone, I texted his phone," Reagan said. "I'm saying, 'hey, it's me, Brendan, what's going on?' " Reagan soon learned that the rumors he'd heard from other friends were true: that Franklin, a 31-year-old Newport native who was stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen Texas, apparently shot his wife, then killed himself, on Sunday, Sept. 26. The tragic incident has been nothing but shocking to Franklin's friends and family in the Newport and Middletown area.
