In Photos: Apple Day at Whitehall Offers Glimpse at Colonial Life, Berkely Legacy

Traditional colonial treats, dress and activities filled the Whitehall Museum House for a combination of history and fun.

One could argue the Whitehall Museum House is immaterial and its former inhabitant hundreds of years ago likely would have agreed. From 1729 to 1731, Whitehall was home to philospher George Berkely, reknowned for advancing the theory of "immaterialism" which theorized that matter doesn't  really exist, but the perception of matter is what is real. Berkeley came to America with the intention of starting a college, but when he was unable to raise funds, he returned to London. Besides philosophical theories, he had left behind the Whitehall Museum House, which opened its doors to the public this last Saturday for a day of history lessons, apple treats and colonial games--Apple Day at Whitehall.
