The film is shot entirely in Rhode Island and the official trailer was released in January. “What an honor for Wes Anderson, his stellar cast and crew, and Focus Features to open the most influential film festival in the world," said Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, in a press release. Local Boy Scout Earns Movie Extra Badge on Set of Moonrise Kingdom

Boy Scout Alden Jenkins, 14, finished a rare scouting chore on Monday—working as an extra for the Wes Anderson movie, "Moonrise Kingdom."

Portsmouth's Alden Jenkins, 14, had quite the usual Boy Scout task finish on Monday at Yawgoog Camp in Hopkinton. Jenkins, a member of Troop 1, Portsmouth, was selected to serve as an extra on the movie "Moonrise Kingdom," which is being filmed at various locations throughout the state, including Portsmouth. "It (acting) seems fun," Jenkins said about the experience. "I liked seeing all the famous people, and how they put it all together. I never appreciated before the work it takes (for a movie)." Moonrise Kingdom, the latest from acclaimed writer and director Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore), is a story about two lovers who are pursued after fleeing their small New England town. The cast reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-…

Bill Murray and Frances McDormand are cast as parents in the film, Projo.com reports.

Filmmakers behind Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" are remaining tight-lipped about when they'll be at certain locations throughout Rhode Island, but have revealed more details about where they'll be, according to Projo.com on Thursday. Besides the Prudence Island location, the Projo's blog reported that additional sets will be located on state-owned property at the Arcadia Wildlife Management Area in Hope Valley, Lincoln Woods State Park, over the bridge at Fort Wetherill State Park in Jamestown and closer to home in Middletown at the Newport State Airport. The filmmakers are not releasing more details about their shooting schedules to discourage crowds from loitering near the sets in hopes of seeing the film's stars, according to Projo.…

"Moon" Rises Over Prudence, Wes Anderson Begins Filming

The "Moon Rise" movie filming was over Prudence Island Friday as cast and crew of Director Wes Anderson's new flick landed on the island.

Acclaimed writer and director Wes Anderson and crew descended on Prudence Island this past Friday to film scenes for the upcoming "Moon Rise Kingdom," a story that revolves around a pair of lovers who flee their New England town, which causes a local search party to fan out and find them. The film stars Hollywood big shots Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray and Frances McDormand, among others, and is set to film all over Aquidneck Island and South County for the next two months. Prudence Islanders, not know for their love of attention for the most part, do not seem to be outwardly bothered by the presence of Hollywood. This, according to Bob Balaban, an Academy Award nominated actor for his role in Gosford Park, might have much to do…

Wes Anderson's 'Moonrise Kingdom' Signs Second One-Year Agreement With Middletown for JFK School

The Town of Middletown has already received $24,750 in rental income for the JFK School from Feb. 28 to July 15, and the latest agreement would bring in an extra $500 per day for later short-term uses.

Producers for the Wes Anderson film “Moonrise Kingdom” have signed a second agreement with the Town of Middletown that would enable the filmmakers to have additional short-term rental access at the closed John F. Kennedy Elementary School for up to one year after the film production wraps early this summer. Lynn Dible, finance director for the Town of Middletown, said the town received the finalized paperwork on Monday and that this latest locations agreement is separate and apart from the initial lease agreement for the JFK School. The closed school on West Main Road is serving mainly as the film’s primary base of operations and crew offices during the pre-production and principle photography phases. Some classrooms within the JFK School …

Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Bill Murray are among the actors involved in the film.

Rhode Island Film & Television Office Executive Director Steven Feinberg confirmed on Tuesday that acclaimed director Wes Anderson will indeed be filming his latest movie "Moonrise Kingdom" at numerous sites throughout Rhode Island and Aquidneck Island beginning this spring. Although he did not go so far as to name Middletown as a location, Middletown officials have confirmed the vacant John F. Kennedy Elementary School on West Main Road will serve as production offices for Anderson's latest star-packed film. Town Administrator Shawn Brown and other school officials confirmed that a pre-production crew in recent weeks has begun setting up the film's production offices at the JFK School, which closed at the end of the 2008-2009 school year …

One local casting company is LDI in Providence, which has done most productions in RI, so if you sign up on their website, you'll be kept up to date on casting calls for extras that way too. This will be a fun story to follow though and I'll do my best to keep people in the loop on things like that! But yes, it's a star-studded cast so far with Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Tilda …   more ›
