newportFILM Director is “One to Watch” in 2013

newportFILM's Terri Connors was named a person to watch in 2013 by GoLocalProv.com.

GoLocalProv.com named newportFILM Executive Director Terri Connors as one of the 13 To Watch in RI in 2013 last Tuesday. “You know you've got a visionary on your hands when she's shuttling filmgoers back and forth to an island in the middle of Narragansett Bay. . .” the article says of Connors, whose work in 2012 included numerous film screenings indoors and outdoors around Newport. Read the full story here. Next February, newportFILM will present a Valentine’s Day screening of Love, Marilyn, a documentary drawing on Monroe’s personal papers, diaries and letters. The screening will be at the Jane Pickens Theater on Feb. 14. Admission is $12.

NewportFILM to Host Family Event At Sweet Berry Farm Today

The event includes a drum circle, magic show and kid-friendly movies

NewportFILM and Sweet Berry Farm have teamed up to provide an evening of family entertainment this afternoon, Thursday June 28. “This event is part of newportFILM's kids programming this summer, one of two post-beach family fun and film days at Sweet Berry Farm,” said Meredith Nordhem with newportFILM.  She said the second event is planned for July 26. “This is a kids and family-friendly event where we will do an hour of interactive fun including a drum circle & magic show in the field, then move inside the barn house for 30 minutes of short films for kids,” said Nordhem.   Event Schedule 4:30 p.m. live music and family entertainment with an interactive drum circle by Tony Fonseca of All Hands Drumming and a magic show 5:30 p.m. half hour…

Last Chance: newportFILM Presents May Mini-Fest

Get your tickets for this weekend's mini-fest.

This week is your last chance to grab tickets to newportFILM’s May mini-fest at the Jane Pickens Theater. The weekend of film runs Friday and Saturday night with screenings for all ages. Friday begins with a pre-release screening of Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present at 7 p.m. followed by a Q&A with producer Marcus Ricci. For the kids, A Cat in Paris will play on Saturday  at 1 p.m. The film  was nominated for a 2012 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The Potter League has also partnered with newportFILM  with a pre-release screening of Quill: The Life of a Guide Dog, screening at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Under African Skies will end the mini-fest weekend on Saturday  at 7:30 p.m. Click here for ticket information.

Viewfinder: Middletown Celebrates Last Summer Hurrahs

The last community bonfire of this summer and a NewportFILM screening at the Norman Bird Sanctuary Thursday night ushered in Labor Day Weekend before the kids go back to school.

Signs of the summer winding down were found leading into Labor Day Weekend Thursday night. The Town of Middletown hosted a wonderful end-of-summer dinner on Second Beach Thursday night. Many members of the Middletown Town Council and of the various town boards and commissions enjoyed a full spread before walking over to the roaring bonfire set up on the beach by the Middletown Fire Department. Families came with picnic baskets overflowing with food and goodies, while children ran around flying kites or played excitedly in the sand in anticipation for the huge bonfire. Just down the road, the Norman Bird Sanctuary hosted one of NewportFILM's final shows of the summer, 'The Last Mountain' directed by Bill Haney and produced by Haney and …

Volunteers are needed to help make Middletown’s First Annual Celebration of the Arts a success on Aug. 20. Students can earn service hours.
