MPD Make 3 Recent DUI Arrests

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown Police recently charged three people with driving under the influence:

  • Joseph Sweetland, 43, of 144 Honeyman Ave., was arrested Friday, Aug. 2 around 1:44 a.m. on a second offense driving under the influence charge. He was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test, speeding, presence of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle, a roadway violation and failure to turn on his interior lights during a traffic stop. Police said he was pulled over because he was swerving and speeding on Aquidneck Avenue.  During the field sobriety tests, he allegedly repeated, “Take me to jail, I’m drunk!”  At the station, he allegedly threw coins and dollar bills around the processing room.  Police said he then took off his shirt and threw it on the floor. He reportedly removed a bandage that covered a bloody wound and splattered blood all over the walls, floor, bench and desk.

  • Judith Soha, 64, of 121 Summer Street, Plymouth, MA, was charged with driving under the influence on Friday, Aug. 2 around 11:24 p.m. She was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test. When asked how much she had to drink, she reportedly said “too much to be driving.”

  • Matthew Petty, 30, of 75 Peterborough Street, Apt #412, Boston, MA, was arrested Sunday around 3:09 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence. He was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test, presence of alcoholic beverages while operating a vehicle and two driving violations.
