Middletown Asks Residents to Support Small Businesses on Nov. 30

The Town of Middletown asks residents to shop local on Saturday, Nov. 30. Where will you shop?

The Town of Middletown has joined a movement to promote small businesses this month.

In a proclamation, passed unanimously by town council, Saturday, Nov. 30 has been declared Small Business Saturday in Middletown. 

“I don't want to take away from our big business partners, but I think it’s important to support small businesses in our community,” said Town Council President Christopher T. Semonelli.

In 2010, American Express designated the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday. On this day, consumers are asked to shop at small businesses, especially those that carry goods made in the United States.  

Smaller employers in Rhode Island, those with less than 20 employees, represent 90 percent of all employers in the state and 25 percent of the workforce, according to the proclamation.
